Martha Jo Steele
August 9, 1951 - April 4, 2025 (Age 73)
Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Martha Jo Steele, 73, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 12:30-1:45 pm at Mt. Holly Methodist Church, 1996 Mt. Holly Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730. A Celebration of Jo’s life will be held at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Jo was a native of Rock Hill, SC and the daughter of the late William Joe Rockholt and Martha Nell Sims Rockholt. She worked for many years as a bus driver for the Rock Hill School District. Jo retired in 2011 from the York County Sheriffs Office after 18 years of service where she worked as a dispatcher and a supervisor in communications. She was known fondly by her co-workers at “Mama Jo”. Jo enjoyed working in the yard and especially planting beautiful flowers. She also loved tending to her chickens and her dogs. Jo was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
Jo is survived by her husband, Ronnie Steele; her children, Darrell Steele, Ronnie Steele, Jr. (Jennifer), Trudy Watts (Doug) and Kevin Steele. She is also survived by her siblings, Doug Rockholt (Virginia), Roger Rockholt (Barbara), Mike Rockholt (Tammy) and Libby Fling; 14 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bill Rockholt.
