Marvin Ray Sponaugle Sr.

April 4, 1939 - April 29, 2025 (Age 86)

Marvin Ray Sponaugle, Sr., 86, of Augusta, WV, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at his home.

Born April 4, 1939, in Frostburg, MD, he was the son of the late Robert Sponaugle and Nellie Irene (Plummer) Sponaugle Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three uncles, Ronald, Gilbert, and Harold Plummer; grandchildren, Adam and Paige Wilde; great-grandson, Skyler Crowe; nephew, Georgie Lee Sponaugle, Jr. and his best friend, Jim Binnix.

Marvin served in the US Navy for four years as a Gunners Mate and Cook. He attended Beall High School in Frostburg.

Marvin enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved using his cooking skills to make dishes for his family. Marvin owned a garage in Baltimore, MD, where he loved working on vehicles. While owning the garage, Marvin built his own stock car. He loved to go to the races, either to watch or to run his car.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Knisley) Sponaugle; children, Sheila Crowe and husband, Richard of Cumberland, MD, Marvin Sponaugle, Jr. and wife, Stephanie of Las Vegas, Robert “Bob” Sponaugle and wife, Lan of Sterling, VA, and Natalie Sullivan and husband, Mark of Greenboro, Georgia, Brenda Crites and her children; his caregiver and oldest grandson, Richard “Ricky” Crowe, Jr.; grandchildren, Sherri Wright and husband, Tommy, Andrew Sponaugle and fiancé, Jocelyn Sawyer, and Sarah Sponaugle; great-grandchildren, Natasha, Mercedes, Landon, Camron, Skylie “Gracie”, Marvin, III, Mark, Tiffany, Michael, Faith, Hope, Matthew and Violet; great-great-grandchildren, Julian and Roland; brother, George Sponaugle; nephews, Jimmy and Stewart; cousin, Debra (Plummer) Hout; best-friend, who helped care for him, Martha Howard and his wiener dog, Danny.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Monday, May 5, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Landis officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
