Mary Ann Young

Mary Ann Young, age 94 of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at 7:10 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Altercare, Zanesville.
She was born November 17, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of Guiseppe (Joseph Charles)
Imperiale and Nancy (Nunzia Triassi) Imperiale, immigrants to the United States from Italy. She was
married to Charles F. Young of Cumberland, OH September 20, 1947, after meeting in a Cleveland diner where Mary Ann worked, and Charles stopped to eat while working his railroad route from Zanesville to Cleveland. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1992, after nearly 45 years of marriage.
A member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir when she was younger. Mary Ann was a long-time employee of Good Samaritan Medical Center where she retired in 1995. She returned to work at Genesis HealthCare System for several years, retiring again in 2002 after a total of 35 years of service.
Mary Ann was a member of Muskingum CCL, Good Samaritan Charity Circle, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. Once retired, Mary Ann’s passions were line dancing with friends at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors, meeting friends from the hospital regularly for breakfast, and following the very active lives of her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Mary Ann are her son, Robert L. and wife Joan (Haver) Young of Hamilton, OH; daughter Charlene Y. Schuster of Thornville, OH; daughter Corey Y. (Pete) Hamilton of Zanesville, OH; several nieces and nephews including special niece Connie Butera of Massillon, OH; six granddaughters, Sara (Daniel) Allen, Cari (Aaron) Vangen, Lori (Curtis) Ashton, Emily (Jordan) Hubbard, Kylee (Jimmy) Crist, and Aubrey (Bryan Morton) Hamilton; twelve great grandchildren Carter and Bailey Allen, Leah and Evan Vangen, Kyle, Rylee, and Kaylee Ashton, Jack and Noah Hubbard, Connor, Everly, and Beau Crist, and Mila Rose Hamilton-Morton due May 2023.
Mary Ann was so very proud of her children and grandchildren who were all “college graduates and good people.”
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her sisters, Lillian (Joe) Casalicchio, Rosalia (Stefano Sciortino) (Rudy) Drabick, Jean (Joe) Pinzone, and Clara (Russell) Hajek; her brothers James, Dominic (Danny), and Joseph; several nieces and nephews, and son-in-law, Dr. Michael Schuster.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Genesis Hospice, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, or St. Nicholas Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Helen Purcell Home, Genesis Hospice, and Altercare, Zanesville for the kind and compassionate care they provided in Mary Ann’s final journey to heaven.
Calling hours will be held at Hillis, Nestor and Combs Funeral Home,935 Forest Ave, Zanesville on Saturday, February 4,2023, from Noon -2:00 pm followed by a short memorial service. A brief graveside dedication will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park.
