Mary Ellen Smith

September 7, 1935 - December 12, 2021 (Age 86)

CUMBERLAND – Mary Ellen Smith, a Mom, Grandma, “Ma Smith,” and “Great-grandmother,” died on December 12, 2021, at the age of 86.

Born on September 7, 1935, in Gilmore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Barbara Usoris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert “Smitty” Smith; great-grandson, Austin Robertson; son-in-law, Charlie Robertson; and granddaughter, Ashley Carder Robertson.

Mary was a 1953 graduate of Beall High School, and a graduate of Catherman’s Business School. She was a very faithful servant to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. If you were a stranger when she ran into you, you were a friend when she walked away! She retired from Liberty Trust Bank, and sold Avon for 32 years. Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Her favorite pastime was sitting, reading a book, while “people watching.” Mary will be greatly missed by everyone.

She is survived by her four children, Vicky Slider and husband Doug, William Smith and wife Brenda, Kim Fost and Jimmy Bean, and Helen Mazuran and husband John; grandchildren, Deanna Warner, Shannon Robertson, Natasha Burns, Stevie Mazuran, Shauna Ritchey, Jessica Mann, and Allison Moore0; great-grandchildren, Kara, McKyla, McKenzie, Sierra, Hayley, Xoe, Israel, Haden, Camren, Elexa, Saylor, Winter, Riley, Roman, Cara, Meredith, Roman, Preston, Cora, Dylan, and Meredith; great great-grandchildren, Owen, Avery, Mason, Evan, Gabby, Krystal, A’Niyah, Ka’Cyn, Beau, Carter, and Brecklin.

Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, December 17, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
