Mary Gretchen Hambel

Mary Gretchen Hambel, 76 of Duncan Falls, went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2023 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Mary Gretchen was born on February 3, 1947, in Cincinnati. She is the daughter of the late Howard and Freida (Geiger) Huff. She was a 1965 graduate of Philo High School, and went on to Ohio University where she earned a B.S. in Education. She taught for over 30 years in the Morgan County School District. She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Zanesville. She loved her family and Sophie her beloved dog. She also loved attending Philo sporting events to watch her children and grandchildren.

Mary Gretchen is survived by her children Doug (Christy) Hambel of Chandlersville, Steve (Allie) Hambel of Buckeye Lake, and Amy (Justin) Day of Duncan Falls; her six grandchildren Stone Hambel, Steel Hambel, Colton (Daryan) Hambel, Chase (Kait) Hambel, Hannah Day, Braden Day, and Blaide, Cohltan, Madyson and Makenzie Woodburn; and her great-grandson, Brooks Hambel.

Along with her parents, Mary Gretchen is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Dana L. Hambel.

Visitations will be from 3 to 7 pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 11 am on Wednesday with Fr. Young as celebrant. Mary Gretchen will be laid to rest beside her husband in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
