Mary O'Connell

Mary “Maureen” Theresa O’Connell, age 89, of Westerville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
Born on March 24, 1936, in New York City to Michael and Nora (Lardner) Faherty, Maureen lived a life rooted in faith and filled with love for her family, travel, cooking, joy, generosity, and kindness. She loved everything about her Irish heritage and especially a hot cup of tea!
Maureen was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament High School in Manhattan and after moving to Westerville, Ohio with her family midlife, dedicated 26 years of service to The Ohio State University. She was deeply devoted to her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness. Maureen held a special love for her birthplace of New York City and treasured her many visits to Ireland.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, George F. O’Connell; her brother, Vincent E. Faherty (Angela), her children, Kevin O’Connell (Theresa Burton), Kerry Agler (Keith), Christine John (Christopher), and Eileen Howard (Todd Wolford); her grandchildren, Lyndsey Agler, Colleen O’Connell (Aaron Sickler), Katherine O’Connell, Trey Howard (Ashley), Bernadette John, Michael John (Nicole), Lauren Wolford, Jackson Wolford; her great-grandchildren Addilyn, Theodore, Delaney, Nolan and Everleigh, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael J. Faherty.
A Celebration of Life through the Catholic Mass will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio 43082.
