Mary T. Johnson
September 5, 1931 - August 20, 2022 (Age 90)
Mary Evelyn Thomas Johnson, 90, joined her beloved husband, Curtis, on Saturday, August 20, 2022. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born September 5, 1931 to Jacob Brice and Rossie Davis Thomas.
Mary was a proud graduate of Burnsville High School where she played varsity basketball. She met the love of her life, Curtis Johnson, while at Burnsville. Upon graduation she joined Curtis in San Diego where he was stationed with the US Navy. Mary and Curtis eventually settled in Mint Hill, NC where they raised their family together for more than 60 years. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved spending time with her family at Lake Tillery and Crescent Beach.
Mary is predeceased by her brother, Lynn Thomas.
She is survived by her sons, Tony Johnson (Jane) and Michael Johnson; her grandchildren, Adam Johnson and Natalie Broadway (Chad); her great-grandchildren, Harper Broadway and Henry Broadway; her brother, Joe Thomas (Sara); her sisters, Sue McCollum and Carolyn Moore.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at McEwen Funeral Service - Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews - Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28227. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 3:00 pm at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, North Carolina 28227.
