Maryalice Carolyn Rodgers
March 29, 1940 - October 25, 2024 (Age 84)
Carolyn (Carol) Guffey Rodgers, 84, of Augusta, GA, beloved mother, Nana, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, October 25, 2024. She is preceded in death by her parents, William Alvoy and Ellen Henson Guffey; brother, Donald J. Guffey; husband, James (Jim) Lewis Rodgers; and her children, Alice Renée McGlone and Gerald Anthony Rodgers.
She is survived by her children, Kim Rodgers Manley of North Augusta, SC, James Kevin Rodgers (LeAnn) of Evans, GA, and Michele Rodgers Peel (Kelly) of Augusta, GA, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who she loved dearly.
Carol was born in Rock Hill, SC on March 29, 1940, and attended Rock Hill High. After school, she met Jim, the love of her life, and they married shortly after on April 10, 1962. She moved to Augusta with her husband and children in 1966 and lived there ever since. She was a wife and homemaker until the passing of her husband, then she began her career at Color Craft until she retired. She always loved babies and children, and thereafter became a nanny for several families whom she adored until she retired in 2012.
Carol was a Godly woman who devoted her life to her family and read her Bible daily. Her passions were singing and playing the piano and organ. She was the lead pianist & singer at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Rock Hill, SC and Foursquare Gospel Church in Augusta, GA. She also traveled with the gospel group The Byrd Family, singing throughout Georgia and South Carolina.
Carol had many talents, and she could play any instrument by ear. She loved teaching her grandchildren to play the piano. In her earlier years, Carol was a member of a Bridge club, the Augusta Junior Woman’s League, and a women’s bowling league where she was awarded several trophies. She always loved photography and carried her camera everywhere she went to capture every moment.
Over the years her other hobbies included various arts & crafts, sewing, quilting, and painting ceramics. Several of her creations reside in the homes of family and friends and are treasured memories. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, listening to music, dancing, movies, and watching sports, especially college basketball, South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs football, the Atlanta Braves.
Carol was friendly, loving, strong-willed, independent, and competitive with a feisty spirit and a big heart. She was an excellent cook and baker and she loved to share her food with everyone.
A private graveside service will be held before interment at Grandview Memorial beside her beloved Jim where she always wanted to be. We are happy she is finally able to re-embrace him after so many years, in her next life.
Pallbearers will be Christian Manley, Lewis Manley, Payton Manley, Kelly Peel, Jr., and Ayden Peel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity on The Hill Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904. (706) 738-8822.
