Michael Bove

June 15, 1932 - April 24, 2025 (Age 92)

Michael Bove, 92, of Greensburg passed away peacefully in the home he built, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Michael was born June 15, 1932, in San Salvatore, Italy, the oldest son of the late Emilio and Rosaria Bove. Shortly after marrying the love of his life and childhood family friend, Theresa Iatomasi, he immigrated to the United States in 1957 with fifty dollars in his pocket. Michael attended the University of Sannio in Benevento, Italy, earning an engineering degree. He went on to further his education, attending Penn State University to obtain his Professional Engineering & Surveying licenses. He worked hard to support his growing family at various employers including Jeannette Glass, Gannett Flemming and Ralph Wilps, where he worked as an engineer while learning English. He founded Bove Engineering Co. in1969, where he worked with his sons and grandsons until his retirement at age 90. He was a past president of the Westmoreland Chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Cancer Society. He was the 2017 recipient of the J. Roy Houston Conservation Partnership Award. Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He cherished gatherings with his family and friends, both here and in Italy. He enjoyed bowling and was an original member of the Fosterville Road League until the age of 91. He was an avid skier and especially enjoyed bike riding. He rode in many bike marathons and enjoyed riding the 5 Star Trail in Greensburg, the Great American Passage Trail in West Newton, and in Naples, Florida. He loved polkas and was an accomplished dancer, loved singing and playing the accordion. He loved music, especially the native songs of Naples from his youth. He enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, and spending summers in Italy with his brothers, sisters and many friends, most recently making the trip for his 92nd birthday last June. Michael taught Italian language classes at WCCC and Saint Paul’s Church for several years. He was witty, generous and quick with an Italian proverb to fit every occasion. He was thankful to God for all his blessings, especially his family. Michael was a long-time member of Saint Paul Parish, where he attended Saturday Masses. He is predeceased by a sister, Maria; a nephew, Emilio; a brother-in-law, Enrico; and sisters-in-law, Maria and Elena, all of Italy. He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Theresa; brothers, Giuseppe and Mario; and sisters. Angela and Pina. He is also survived by his loving children, Emil (Sandy), Lucien (Karen), RoseAnn Taormina (Darrin), and Michelle Zinsser (Bill); 10 grandchildren, AJ, Angelina, Michael, Anthony, Vittoria, Mary Theresa (Dante), Emma, Livia, Anna, and Will; and his great granddaughter. Julia Rae Bove. The family thanks Bridges Hospice, especially Theresa and Shay, for their kindness and loving care. We will greatly miss Michael’s smile, optimism, singing and his love for life. “Ci vediamo,” until we meet again. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 PM Sunday at the LEO M. BACHA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 516 Stanton Street, Greensburg. Prayers will begin at 12:30 PM Monday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 1 PM in St. Paul Parish, Greensburg.
