Michael D. Kelly

June 17, 1946 - March 10, 2022 (Age 75)

Michael Dennis Kelly, 75, of Cumberland, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, after a long, courageous battle against several cancers.

Born June 17, 1946 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James E. Kelly, Sr., and Mary G. Kelly.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Eileen Jefferson, Katherine Kelly, James E. Kelly, Jr., and D. Patrick Kelly; wives Carol (Morgan) Kelly, Helen (Ritchey) Kelly, and Connie (Davis) Kelly; and stepdaughter, Tonia Twigg Swick.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie (Smith) Kelly; children, Christopher Kelly and significant other Dana Canterbury, Cumberland, Erin Kelly Rice and husband Brian, Oldtown; siblings, Dorothy Barnard, Lutherville, Kerry Kelly and wife Nanette, North Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Kelly, Frostburg, and Joyce Kelly, Cumberland; stepchildren, Roger Twigg, Jr., Ross Twigg, and Andrew Twigg. He is also survived his grandchildren, Morgan Kelly, Colorado, Tyua Miller and husband Roy, Brian Leasure and husband Todd, and Ela Rice, all of Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike graduated from LaSalle High School in 1964. After attending Frostburg State College, he completed his apprenticeship with Local #307 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and worked as an electrician both locally and in several states. He was a member of many local fraternal organizations including, but not limited to Ft. Cumberland Post #13 American Legion, the Goodfellowship Club, the Democrat Club, Cresaptown Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2883, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 271 where he enjoyed socializing while playing skill pool, billiards, and shuffleboard. Mike was an avid golfer, duckpin bowler, and camper. He loved his camping family and floating the rivers. He especially enjoyed playing cards and holding a cold Miller Lite in his hand!

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 4-7 PM.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 AM, with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to thank his primary caregiver Dr. Tanya Fancy, his otolaryngologist, as well as the UPMC Hospice nurses and the staff at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital of WVU.
