Michael Murkley

Michael Murkley, 91, of Herminie, passed away Thursday, Jan. 20, 2022, at UPMC Passavant-McCandless Hospital, in Pittsburgh. He was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Yukon, son of the late Samuel and Lillian (Rudan) Murkley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cynthia Murkley, in November; son, John (Johnny) Murkley; five brothers, George, Samuel, John, Nicholas and Dave Murkley; and two sisters, Mildred Mamula and Helen Sommerville. Mike was a graduate of Sewickley High School. Prior to his retirement, Mike was a milkman, having worked for Westland Dairy and was their Teamster Steward. After he retired, he became landscape maintenance supervisor at Crabapple Park and Pool located in Herminie. He loved to polka with his wife and going to dances throughout the tri-state area. He played the accordion in his younger years in the HB Polka band. Mike was an avid history buff, always reading and educating himself. He also enjoyed hunting, sports, "working out" and loved roller coasters. He truly was a man for all seasons as he was a self-taught mechanic, craftsman and carpenter. More than anything, he loved his wife, Cindy, who he was inseparable from for the past 67 years. He was a member of St. Edward Church in Herminie, Altar Rosary Society, Holy Name Society and former president of the Sunshine Club. Michael is survived by his son, Michael F. (Susan) Murkley, of Wayne, Pa.; daughter, Karen Vincler (Robert Mackey), of Allison Park; two grandchildren, Nevin (Joshua) Torres and Tyler Murkley (girlfriend Taylor Sciarra); great-grandson, Carter James Torres; nephew, Jeff (Lorraine) Ghion; and their daughters, Kathryn (Tom) Vey and Mariel Ghion (boyfriend Roger Cooley); along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mike will be dearly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2022, in St. Edward Church, Herminie, with Father Vincent Yee-Concepcion as celebrant. Please go directly to the church.
