Mildred Hines

November 5, 1934 - March 11, 2024 (Age 89)

Mildred “Aunt Millie” Hines, 89, passed peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024, in her sleep at her home in Cardington, Ohio. Aunt Millie was born on November 5, 1934, in Marion, Ohio to her parents Edgar Jones and Edith (Spalding) Jones. She graduated from Cardington High School in 1952. She married Richard Hines and the two shared a long and happy life together. She is survived by her sons Steve (Dianna) Hines of Cardington, Ohio and Ross (Theresa) Hines of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Alisha Mitchell, Randal (Trisha) Hines, Brandi (Jordan) Moore, Elizabeth (Tony) Clark, and Jessica (Robbie) Parsons; great grandchildren Sadie, Alexis, Layla, Keydan, Eevie, Ryan, David, Eva, Zach, Gracie, and Gabe; and great-great grandchild Lucius. Aunt Millie joins in rest her beloved husband Richard Hines; parents Edgar and Edith (Spalding) Jones; brothers Walter, Frank and Marion; and sisters Liz, Pat, Emma Jean, Marybelle, and Shirley. She will be dearly missed.

In a word, Aunt Millie was feisty. She was very active and versatile in her endeavors. Just as soon as she learned to do one thing, she was off to the next. This is best illustrated in her having a career in truck driving at one point and her final career being an in-home health caretaker. She was firm in her beliefs, of which she had many, and she was never shy about expressing them. You always knew just where you stood with her.

Yet, Aunt Millie never knew a stranger. No matter who you were, she had both the time and energy to listen and converse. Her favorite topic of conversation was The Ohio State Buckeyes. She was a die-hard fan and would be hard-pressed to tolerate mention of the team from the state up north. When she was able, she was an avid gardener and would can that which she grew. She also loved to feed and watch the birds. But her true passion and love in life was her family. Aunt Millie adored and was adored by her family.

Aunt Millie lived a long and prosperous life. Her family of two sons grew exponentially and this was an invaluable gift. She was able to cook well for this large clan whom she loved. She got to watch their numbers and generations exceed past her expectations. Most importantly she was able to appreciate what so few are able to experience in life and that is a great-great grandchild. She was a Christian woman who attended God’s Anointed Alter Church and was devout in her faith. God blessed her with much and with much she did even more. The space she leaves in so many lives will be filled with the memories and the love she had to give and perhaps a few spicy opinions.

Arrangements were made with DeVore Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday, March 18 from 11-1. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 with a procession to Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Westerville, Ohio for burial immediately to follow. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Paws for Heroes in loving memory of Aunt Millie. Thank you for your generosity.
