Mildred S. Powell
July 13, 1930 – March 20, 2026 (Age 95)
Rock Hill, SC – Mildred Shockley Powell “Gikki”, age 95, entered her heavenly home surrounded by the love of her family on March 20 2026. Born on July 13th, 1930, Mildred was a woman whose life was deeply rooted in her love for Jesus, which guided her in all she did. She was a faithful servant, a kind neighbor, and a steady presence to all who knew her.
Mildred dedicated 48 years of hard work to Celanese before retiring. Outside of her career, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life especially her daily walks through the neighborhood where she enjoyed the world around her.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Pete Powell to whom she was married for an incredible 78 years. Together, they built a life centered on love, commitment, and unwavering support for one another. Also her late Father and Mother (James Robert and Tilda Shockley), and sisters Louise Davis, Lee Duncan, Ruth Brooks, Bessie Wallace, Brenda Traylor, also Brother James Shockley (JR), and her great grandson Trey Freeman.
She is survived by her two Daughters Vicki Thompson(Jerry) and Marlene Lane(Gene) who were honored to call her mom.
Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Renee Thompson Hudson, Nikki Thompson Weissinger(Mike), Casey Anderson Rucker(David), and Dusty Thompson(Shannon). Along with her 12 great grandchildren, Jordan, Bailey, Brantlee, Kolbi, Karsyn, Taegan, Tate, Madison Jordan, Jaedyn, Jensen, Katelynn. 11 great-great-grandchildren Haidyn, Avereigh, Maverik, Westyn, Kasher, Braylee, Evelynn, Kaibree, Cooper, Auslyn, Madx. With 1 more great-great-grandchild on the way. Also survived by her sister Nancy Porter(Bill). And her precious four legged friend Babydoll.
Her memories stories, and the examples she set will continue to guide those she leaves behind. Though she will be dearly missed her legacy of kindness and faithfulness will move on for generations.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23rd 2026 from 5:30-7pm at Greene’s Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer, Rock Hill SC, 29730.
A Funeral Service will be held at Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis Street, Rock Hill SC, 29730 on Tuesday, March 24th at 11:00 am with Reverend Jerry Devinney officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
