October 6, 1944 - January 7, 2024 (Age 79)

Mitchell J. Harclerode, 79, of Everett, PA; passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. He was born on October 6, 1944 in Snake Spring Township, Everett, PA; a son of the late Ethel M. Harclerode. He married Connie (Spade) Harclerode on April 6, 1974, she preceded him in death on May 12, 2018.

He is survived by a half sister, Peggy Bennett, a sister-in-law, Sandra (Spade) Fetter and husband Dean. Six nieces and nephews Paula (Spade) Gibbons and husband William, Julie (Spade) Smith, Ginger (Spade) Mearkle, Clyde Spade Jr. and wife Michelle, Chad Spade, Deb LaMagna and husband Michael and Carol Harclerode and friend Eugene Redinger; great nieces and great nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Harclerode, a sister-in-law, Betty Harclerode, brothers-in-law, Eugene Alvin Spade, and Clyde Allen Spade, Sr.

He was employed in 1963 by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc., until his retirement in May of 2013. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1982 to 1996.

He served in the U.S. Army from February 1967 to February 1969 during the Vietnam War. He served as vehicle driver, squad leader E5 and section sergeant in Weapons Platoon, in Company A, 1st Bn (M) 47th Infantry from August 2, 1967 to February 1, 1969.

He was recommended for the 171st Infantry Brigade (Mech) Certificate of Achievement. He was an expert rifleman with the M14 and 81MM mortar. Also received the Good Conduct Medal.

He was associated with the Wesleyan Holiness Church.

In his younger years he was an avid hunter and enjoyed shooting trap at local sporting clubs. He also enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour novels and loved to listen to Talk Radio. He looked forward to his Sunday visits from Lloyd and Tom Nycum.

Friends and Family will be received on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Akers Funeral Home, Inc., 299 Raystown Road, Everett, PA 15537 from 12:00 Noon until the hour of funeral service.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel at Akers Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Byron Myers officiating. Military honors conducted by the Everett Area Honor Guard.

Burial will be held privately at Bedford County Memorial Park.
