Monnie P. Wallace
June 6, 1930 – March 15, 2026 (Age 95)
Monnie “Monty” Wallace, 95, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at Novant Health Matthews, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and the simple beauty she shared so generously with others.
Born on June 6, 1930, in Relief, North Carolina, Monty was the daughter of Jesse and Geneva Bennett Peterson. She grew up in the mountains she loved, and after graduating high school, she moved to Charlotte to attend cosmetology school. She became a licensed beautician and devoted more than five decades to her craft, working with skill and warmth until the age of 75.
On November 21, 1953, she married Charles “Buck” Wallace, beginning a marriage rooted in devotion, hard work, and deep affection. Together they built a life in Mint Hill, where they became lifelong members of Mint Hill Baptist Church—a community that remained central to Monty’s heart.
Monty had a gift for growing beauty. She loved flowers, gardening, and tending her yard, and she shared the fruits of that love with everyone around her. She was known throughout her community for the flowers she gave so freely—bouquets left on doorsteps, arrangements brought to church, and blossoms offered simply to brighten someone’s day. Her flowers became part of her ministry, a quiet expression of care that touched countless lives.
She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Curtis) Morehead of Mint Hill; her great‑grandchildren, Dilon and Cheyenne; and her brother, Robert L. Peterson of Erwin, Tennessee. She is further survived by her beloved church family and Sunday School class at Mint Hill Baptist Church, along with many other relatives and friends who cherished her. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles; her daughter, Tanya; and her grandson, Curtis.
Monty’s family has entrusted the care of Monty to the family of Lowe‑Neddo Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 19, in the funeral home chapel at 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, followed by a service at noon led by Pastor Will Stoneham. After the service, Monty will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, beside her husband, Buck.
