Moses Lee Hodges

January 28, 1940 - February 9, 2025 (Age 85)

Moses (Lee) Hodges, 85, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Robert and Annie Hodges and is preceded in death by his sister, Lillie Mae Johnson (Lloyd). He is survived by his sisters, Frances Swain (Wayne) and Shelby Jean Branson (Bob).

Born in Horry County, South Carolina, Lee grew up working on a tobacco farm, where he tended to the crops with his family. He attended Green Sea High School and graduated early in 1958. He went on to have a remarkable career as a conductor for Norfolk Southern, where he worked on the railroads throughout South Carolina for 40 years.

Lee was the devoted husband of Alceon Hodges for 59 years, a union of love filled with cherished memories. Together, they built a family that includes raising their two sons who brought him immense pride and joy, Barry Hodges (Teresa) and Larry Hodges, as well as four treasured grandchildren, Jacklyn Palk, Bobby Palk, Kristen Palk, and Chelsea Colley (Andrew). Lee greatly valued his nine great-grandchildren and all his nieces and nephews.

Lee found joy in small engine repairs, gardening, and playing music. He looked forward to Sunday lunches and holiday gatherings, where the family enjoyed time together and made lasting memories.

Lee’s smile and great sense of humor will be greatly missed. He had a unique ability to teach his family about the beauty of life, reminding them to cherish the little things, love one another, always stick together and work hard.

The family will gather to celebrate Lee’s life and legacy with a visitation on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 12:30-1:45 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A graveside service will follow at Grandview Memorial Park, 620 S Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Jerry Devinney officiating.
