Neal D. Smith

Neal D. Smith, widower of Beverly L. (Mest) Smith of Pottstown, passed away on Sunday April 6, 2025 in Pottstown Hospital.

Born in Altoona, PA, he was the son of the late John C. Smith and the late Jessie Priscilla (Simmons) Smith.

Neal was a schoolteacher at Daniel Boone School District for thirty-eight years, retiring in 2000. He also worked as a security guard for Security Guards Inc. for twenty-three years.

He was a 1960 graduate of Penn State University with a major in labor management relations, undertook postgraduate studies at West Chester University to obtain his teaching certificate, and was a 1978 graduate of Millersville University with a reading specialist certificate.

Neal enjoyed spending time with his family and pets. He loved listening to music, particularly big band music. His favorite activities were reading and fishing. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed listening to jokes as much as telling them.

He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Lynne E. Smith wife of Jeffrey Wolff, Jackson, NJ; Dr. LeeAnn E. wife of Joseph McCullough, Jr., Pottstown; and three grandchildren, Ian, Gaelen and his wife Caitlin, and Liam. He was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Wilson.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday April 12, 2025, at the Schumacher & Benner Funeral Home & Crematory, 359 King Street, Pottstown. Officiating will be the Reverend Michael Remel. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. There will be a viewing Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
