Norma Sansbury

March 28, 1927 - July 7, 2025 (Age 98)

Norma Stewart Sansbury, born on March 28, 1927, went to her heavenly home on July 7th, 2025. She was born in Timmonsville, SC, and was the daughter of James Austin Stewart and Pauline Humphries Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, J.C. Stewart and sister, Cecilia Ham.

Throughout her long and meaningful life, Norma remained deeply rooted in her faith and community. A devoted Christian who lived to glorify the Lord, Norma was a cherished member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Her presence there was a source of warmth and encouragement to many, and, she found great joy in worship and fellowship. She dedicated much of her life to nurturing others - both within her family and beyond. She taught Sunday School and Kindergarten with compassion, sharing her love with countless children during their formative years. Later in life, she extended that same care to friends in need of support. Her passions were many: she found joy in cooking meals that brought people together, tending flowers that bloomed under her touch, and filling quiet moments with music that lifted the spirit. These simple pleasures reflected the depth of her character - gentle yet strong, humble yet full of life.

She was a loving wife, mother and Grandmother. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Curtis L. Sansbury. Together they built a loving home filled with care and devotion. As a mother, Norma was kind and wise - a guiding light to her children: Woody and wife Mary Sansbury of Charlotte, Pam and husband Sam Mitchum of Matthews, NC, and Judy and husband Barry Chaney of Brevard, NC. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Meredith Silliman and her husband Justin; Molly Allred and her husband Bill; Ben Sansbury; Nick Johnson; Mark Mitchum and his wife Amelia; Griff Sansbury and his wife Lindsay; and, Kim Hattemer and her husband Chuck. She was proud to be a great grandmother to Paul Silliman, Grady and Maddy Allred, Ruthie and Ridge Mitchum, and Sutton and Maisy Sansbury.

Norma’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her - as a mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, neighbor, church member- and, as someone whose love left an indelible mark on generations.
