Paul E. Horner
April 15, 1937 – August 4, 2026 (Age 89)
Paul E. Horner Jr., 89, of Schellsburg, PA, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Paul was born April 15, 1937, in Roaring Springs, PA, to Paul E. Sr and Mildred (Ayers) Horner. He married Wilma Diehl on June 22, 1962; they were deeply dedicated to each other for 58 years until Wilma’s passing. They had one son, David, who was their pride and joy. He was a lifelong resident of Schellsburg, PA.
Paul was proud to carry on his family’s military legacy by serving for four years in the USMC. He was a man of faith, and a lifelong member at Point Fellowship Church. Paul was very dedicated to family, and was happiest when he was hunting, watching baseball, visiting gun stores, or going on drives through the countryside. He was a great storyteller, and loved to regale willing listeners with stories of how far a nickel could stretch “back in the day”, his time as a Marine aboard the USS Salem, hunting conquests, his 40 years as a truck driver, or his memories with his late son, Dave. One of Paul’s favorite titles was “Pappy”. He was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always very invested in their lives. He loved to tease them, and never let them forget their childhood follies or nicknames. He set a wonderful example for them to follow, and they will remember him for his strength of character, generosity, and willingness to drive any distance for a sweet treat. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, brother, and great-granddaughter.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law Joanna (Joe) LaFave, six grandchildren: Diane (Anthony) Weaver, Jerald (Bethany), Loretta (Brad) Miller, Janelle (Kevin) Wollman, Brendan (Liz), Jessica, 13 great-grandchildren, a brother, and nieces and nephews. Paul will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He lived independently at home until one week prior to his passing.
The family recognizes that this was possible due to the kindness of his neighbors (local community) who visited him and brought him meals, and extends heartfelt gratitude.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 5-7 PM and Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 9:45-11 AM at Geisel-Styer Funeral Homes, Bedford. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM.
Interment will be held at Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford.
