Peggy Sloan Mitchell

Mrs. Peggy Sloan Mitchell was born November 11, 1945 in Gaston County, North Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at the age of 79 at her residence in Lanham, Maryland. She was the fourth of ten children of the late Woodrow Bob and Rosa Dell Moore Sloan.

Accepting Christ at a young age, Peggy was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church in Lucia, North Carolina. Peggy moved to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina when she was 4 years old, attending Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and graduating from West Charlotte High School in 1963. The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. was her graduation Commencement speaker. Upon graduation, Peggy enrolled at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where she graduated in 1967.

Peggy lived in several U.S. cities after graduating from college, including, Cincinnati, Ohio, Providence, Rhode Island, New York City, and Baltimore, Maryland, finally settling in Lanham, Maryland in the late seventies. She was employed by the Social Security Administration for over forty years until retirement.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Rosa Sloan; brothers, James Sloan, Harold Sloan, Larry Sloan, and Curtis Sloan; sister, Linda Sloan.

She is survived by brothers, Jerry Donald Sloan (Gloria) and Dennis Wayne Sloan (Willisene); sisters, Joyce Sloan Gresham (Bob) and Barbara Sloan Rozzelle (Benjamin), all of Charlotte, North Carolina; Nieces, Catrina Sloan West (Colton) of Seattle Washington, and Nicole Sloan, Paula Sloan Cook (Antwaun), Jamillah Douglas, Lakeisha Gresham Githae, Alona Bess, and Ashley Sloan, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; nephews, Robert Gresham, Jr. (Lakeisha) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Patrick Pope, Jr. (Brittney), of Dallas, Texas, and Kreston Lamont Sloan, Michael Steven Sloan (Laura), Jerrick Gresham (Keiya), all of Charlotte, North Carolina; Harold Alonzo Sloan, and a host of great nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and friends.
