He was born on September 20, 1938 in Imler in the historic Lincoln House, Gerald was raised in Imler and Lovely and
remained deeply rooted in the community he loved. He lived at 662 South Imler Valley
Road, where his legacy of faith, family, and hard work will long be remembered.
Gerald was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Gail (Corle) Mowry, whom he
married on June 10, 1961. This year marked their 65th wedding anniversary. Together
they built a life centered on faith, partnership, and unwavering commitment.
He is survived by his beloved children, Brian (Denise) Mowry, Adena (James)
Claycomb, and Scott (Danelle Crist) Mowry; nine grandchildren; five great-
grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death
by his daughter, Lisa Mowry; his parents, Stanton and Sarah Beryl (Imler) Mowry; and
his brother, William S. Mowry.
A lifelong farmer, Gerald operated Mowry’s Poultry Farm for 55 years and was known
for his strong work ethic and generosity, often sharing the fruits of his labor with others.
Gerald’s life reflected a deep commitment to service and community. He volunteered
with the Imler Area Volunteer Fire Company, was active in the Bedford County Farm
Bureau, founded the Capon Club at the Bedford County Fair, started the Pig Greased
Contest for the Imler Ox-Roast, and played an integral role in the annual event. He
established and cared for the Imler Memorial Park—a legacy now continued by his son
Scott—and served as King Township Supervisor for 50 years.
A devoted member of Trinity Reformed Church of Osterburg, Gerald was deeply
involved in church life. His love for the Lord was evident through his heartfelt lengthy
prayers, humor, and gift for storytelling. He will be remembered as a steady and caring
presence to all who knew him.
Hardworking, compassionate, and full of faith, Gerald lived a life that exemplified service
and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a man of faith, devoted
to the Lord, loving to his wife and family, and finding joy in life’s simple blessings.
