Ralph Edward "Ed" Reck Jr., of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in his home. He was born on September 9, 1945, to Ralph Reck Sr. and Berniece Reck, who preceded him in death.
Ed dedicated more than 50 years of his life to Christian education, faithfully serving as a school administrator and mentor to countless students, families, and educators. He earned his master's degree from Xavier University and devoted his career to Christian education through his work at Madison Christian Academy, Fairfield Christian Academy, Harvest Preparatory School, and Tri-County Christian School in Cincinnati, Ohio. His passion for faith-based learning and servant leadership left a lasting impact on the communities he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ed was known for his warm sense of humor, kind heart, and ability to fix just about anything. He enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, watching The Ohio State University football games, spending time at the lake, and doing activities with his family. Whether building something with his hands or sharing a laugh with family and friends, Ed approached life with enthusiasm, generosity, and gratitude.
One of the greatest blessings of Ed's life began with a blind date at the Darke County Fair in Greenville, Ohio, where he met the love of his life, Barbara. The couple married in 1968 and built a loving partnership rooted in faith, devotion, and family. Together they welcomed two daughters, who became the pride and joy of his life.
A devoted husband, father, and man of faith, Ed took great pride in guiding his family spiritually. He had the special privilege of officiating both of his daughters' weddings and providing premarital counseling for them, creating cherished memories that reflected his deep love for his family and his unwavering commitment to Christian values.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Barbara Reck; his daughters, Kelly Freed and Amy (Jeremy) Lloyd; granddaughters Alexia West, Hayley (Judah) Niknam, and Britney (Garrett) Hoshor; step-granddaughters Lauryn Lloyd and Grace Lloyd; sisters Judy Kugel and Melonia (Steve) North; brother-in-law Dean (Chris) Eby; nieces Tamara (Keith) Helton, Teresa (Ishmael) Sevor, Trisha (Brandon) Fellers, and Robyn (Patrick) Kelly; nephew Justin (Kristi) North; as well as many other cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, former students, and colleagues.
Family and friends may visit on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Madison Christian Church. A funeral service celebrating Ed's life will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the church, with interment to follow at Franklin Hills Memorial Gardens.
Ed will be remembered for his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, dedication to Christian education, loving devotion to his family, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, wisdom, and service. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
