A funeral ceremony for Reverend David Stanley Smith, age 76, of Heath will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26, at The Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath with Dr. CeCe Harris, officiating. Military honors will begin at 12 p.m. provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
David passed away July 22, 2021 at The Laurels of Heath Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 15, 1945 to the late Gay C. and Flora Irene (Stewart) Smith in Gladwin, Michigan.
David was a 1963 high school graduate of West Muskingum High School and was part of the first graduating class of the new high school building. He served our Country in the United States military with service including the Army National Guard, United States Air Force, and the Air National Guard. He was a proud service member. He traveled to all 50 States, 26 different counties and around the world twice with military. David held a Black Belt in Judo and Karate.
David married Helen Grubb on March 8, 1977. Together they supported each other in their hobbies and interests. He was a mathematics and shop teacher in the Hazard Jackson, Kentucky area and was a softball coach. He was a branch manager for Stanley Steamer Carpet Cleaning in Indiana, and while in Indiana started his own carpet cleaning company, Agape Carpet Cleaning.
Making the decision to move to Ohio, David and Helen began his Ohio Carpet Cleaning business called, 1 John 4:7. While in Ohio, David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry from Circleville Bible College - graduating at age 37 he was a dedicated student. David served God’s people in his missionary work and pastored several churches in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
David loved Jesus and knew Jesus loved him.
He is survived by his four daughters, Stephanie Cruz, Kristin Lee, Christian Lynn Smith, and Elizabeth “Beth” Irene Perez; one son, David Smith, Jr.; fourteen grandchildren, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen (Grubb) Smith; six brothers and three sisters.
Friends and family may call two hours prior to the service (9-11 a.m.) on Monday, July 26 at The Heath Chapel of Henderson- Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath.
A graveside service will take place at a later date at Franklin Hills Memorial Gardens, Canal Winchester.
