Rex Dean Stephens

Rex Dean Stephens, age 85, of Groveport died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Born February 1, 1938, in Talladega, Alabama to the late Louie and Myrtle (Wyatt) Stephens.

Rex was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after 27 years of dutiful and devoted enlistment.

Rex loved to go fishing. It could be in a neighbor’s pond or Lake Erie, it didn’t matter where, he just loved it. The only thing better was doing it with his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting and playing cards, especially Texas Hold’em. Rex would often play at the Pickerington Moose Lodge 2321, which he was a member. He also enjoyed woodworking, and was a lifelong coin collector. But above all else, without a doubt, Rex’s favorite thing in the world was his family!

He is survived by his children, Tamera (Chad) Kennedy, Tracy Stephens, Teresa (Arthur) Watterman, and Hobert (Susan) Payne Jr; grandchildren, Luke Kennedy, Logan Kennedy, Matthew (Elizabeth) Stephens, Barbara Stephens, Corey (Rachael) Payne, Melissa Roberts, Chelsea Payne, Alexis Payne, Zachary Payne; siblings, Jearlean Carmack, Dixie Pruitt, Virginia Thorton, Cynthia Gunter, Brenda (Larry) McNeal, Donald (Kathy) Stephens, and Billie Joe (Pat) Stephens; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.

Rex joins his wife of 51 years, Betty Stephens, in heaven, along with his son, Jerry Payne and siblings, Ronald Stephens, Sara Moon, Marie Thomas, and Betty Sue Whitten.

In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a special place, no one else can ever fill.

Friends may visit Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 4-7pm at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME 650 W. Waterloo St Canal Winchester, OH 43110 where funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 11 am. Interment will follow at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens 5802 Elder Rd, Canal Winchester, OH 43110
