Richard D. "Dick" Kunkle, 91, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. He was born Aug. 29, 1930, in Vandergrift, a son of the late Clyde and Mildred Bence Kunkle. Dick retired Dec. 29, 1990, as store manager of the former Davis Supermarket, Greensburg. He was a veteran of the Navy, serving aboard the USS Blair (DE 147) during the Korean Conflict. Dick was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, where he was active for many years with the Lenten Fish Fry and the annual church festival. He was a member of the Cercemaggiore Association and the Hilltop Social Club. He enjoyed golfing with the Quatro Golf League and bowling with the Hilltop Bowling League and two senior leagues. Dick also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family especially going to the beach every summer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Kunkle; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kunkle and his in-laws, John and Nina Spino. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Maria A. Spino Kunkle; his daughter, Angela Buo Maxson (JR), of Greensburg; grandchildren, Eric Kunkle (Erin), Keith Kunkle (Amanda), Nick Maxson (Deanna), Dustin Maxson (Amanda) and Brooke Maxson (Seth); seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Spino (Mary Lou), of Greensburg; and several nieces, nephews and wonderful supportive neighbors that are like family. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Richard from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, 724-837-0020. Parting prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in the Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. Entombment will follow with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post No. 33 Honor Guard in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Campbell and the staff of Excela Westmoreland and Hospice for their loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the The Cercemaggiore Association, 432 Steck St., or Our Lady of Grace Church, 1011 Mt Pleasant Rd., both Greensburg, PA 15601.
