Rita Francis (McGrath) Carpenter
October 19, 1929 - July 1, 2021 (Age 91)
Rita Carpenter passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 8:15 p.m. Mrs. Carpenter was born October 19, 1929 in Zanesville, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, her parents Bernard & Grace McGrath, brothers Bobby & John Harvey McGrath, and grandson Brian Barclay.
She leaves behind her children Theresa (Bruce) Barclay, Theodore (Kathy) Carpenter, Trudy (Peter) Cultice, Kelly Carpenter and Michael Carpenter (Susan Sneddon).
Her grandchildren Ryan (Jody) Carpenter, Brad Barclay, Blair (Stephanie) Barclay, Alexander Cultice (Phoenix, Arizona), Sarah Cultice (Zachary Leibold), Cole (Sarah) Carpenter (London, England), Paige (Zachary) Gullett.
Her great grandchildren Drew Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Blade Barclay, MyLeigh Barclay, and Gatlin Gullett, and step great grandchildren Ayla Tilton and Gage Rollins
Special friends Jennifer Ward, Tammy Archer, Martha Sullivan, Shirley Fitz, Diana Kuhn, Ruth Spearman, Stacy McFadden and many others. Her special canine companion Brandy. Thank you to Interim Hospice for the loving care they provided to Mrs. Carpenter and the family.
She married Francis on January 30, 1948. They were married 69 3/4 years.
Mrs. Carpenter was involved in the community in many ways including American Business Women in which she served as President and was awarded the Woman of the Year, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary President, MVOTA Women as a founding member along with long time friend Pauline Davis, she also started the Miss Babe Ruth Queen Contest in 1966.

Calling hours will be held at the Hillis Combs Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Monday, July 5, 2021. The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
