Robert Jay McFarland

Robert Jay McFarland, age 89, of Irwin passed away on Tuesday December 19, 2023 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Jay was born on December 8, 1934 in Greensburg the son of the late Henry A. and Mary E. (Byerly) McFarland. Jay was a veteran of the US Army Reserves; he was a former police officer for the Borough of Irwin and retired as a school bus driver for the Penn-Trafford School District with over 20 years of service. He loved to golf and spend time at the Irwin Country Club. In addition to his parents Jay was preceded in death by his first wife Jean D. (Skrabski) McFarland. He is survived by his second wife Suzanne (Dell) McFarland; his step-daughters Jodi Unsinger (George) and Christine Balash; a niece Kristine Snyder and his sister-in-law Shirley Newhouse. There will be no visitation and services will be private. A private burial will be in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Twp. The Ott Funeral Home Inc, 805 Pennsylvania Ave. Irwin 724-863-8900 is assisting the family with arrangements.
