Robert L Maiers

Robert Louis Maiers, 98, of Ridgeley, died Friday, January 17, 2025 at his home.

Born January 7, 1927 in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late Englebert J. Maiers and Margaret (Jones) Maiers.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Maiers; and siblings, Arthur Maiers, Evelyn Nestor, Kenneth Maiers, Thomas Maiers, Edith Mulligan, and Emma Titchnell.

Robert had attended Ridgeley High School.

He was a veteran, having served in the US Army during World War II. Robert was one of the rare veterans that was present at the Nuremberg Trials which took place after the war was over. He was one of the last living veterans that witnessed the trials.

After the war, Mr. Maiers worked for the railroad and eventually retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass, where he had worked for over 30 years.

He was a member of the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association). He enjoyed restoring vintage race cars and antique cars with his son, Bobby. Over an 11-year period, they participated in hundreds of races where Bobby would race the cars his dad owned.

Survivors include his son, Robert “Bobby” K. Maiers and wife Pat; siblings, Howard Maiers and wife Kate, and Alice Cross; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, handled the private arrangements. Services were conducted in the funeral home with Gospel Minister Jimmie Flanagan officiating. Interment was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, where military honors were accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.
