Robert R. Garand

Rock Hill, SC – Robert Richard Garand, 81, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Piedmont Medical Center.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Garand was the son of the late George Garand and the late Helen Jones Garand. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris V Garand, and his son, Scott Garand.

Mr. Garand was a U.S. Marine Corps sergeant where he was an Embassy Guard in both Rangoon and Tokyo and served during the Dominican Crisis. He met his wife, Doris, in Tokyo where she worked as a secretary at the Embassy.

Mr. Garand was awarded a patent for development of a new technique for printing in the ink industry. He was an avid jigsaw puzzler and had an infectious sense of humor. Most importantly, he had a deep love and cared very much for his family. He was a member of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Rock Hill, SC.

Surviving are his son, Gregory Garand of Rock Hill, SC; his daughter-in-law, Margaret K. Garand (Scott) of Charlotte, NC; and 4 grandchildren, Grace Garand, Paige Garand, Kemp Garand and Margaret Garand.

There will be a private memorial planned for his friends and family.
