Roger A. LaShombe
August 3, 1935 - September 8, 2025 (Age 90)
Roger A. LaShombe, 90, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 3, 1935, in Potsdam, New York, to the late Carlton LaShombe and Hazel Sharpsten.
Roger was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 64 years, Leola LaShombe, and a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Together they built a loving home filled with faith, strength, and perseverance.
A proud veteran, Roger honorably served his country in the United States Air Force while stationed on the island of Okinawa, as well as in both the Army and Air Force National Guard. His military career spanned 19 years of dedicated service. Following his years in the Armed Forces, Roger worked for 27 years as a New York State Corrections Officer.
Beyond his career, Roger brought joy and skill into the world through woodworking, creating countless handmade works that reflected both his talent and care. His greatest calling, however, was his lifelong devotion to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1976, he was credited with founding the very first prison ministry at Green Haven Prison, profoundly impacting many lives. In a testament to his unwavering faith, Roger earned his ministerial degree and was ordained at the age of 82.
Roger is survived by his wife, Leola LaShombe; his children, Lori L. Rola and her husband Leonard, Roger C. LaShombe, and Lee R. LaShombe and his wife Maryann; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His love and legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 9:30–10:45 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. A service celebrating Roger’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m.
