Roger Cannon
May 28, 1946 - January 17, 2024 (Age 77)
Roger C. Cannon, 77, of Cresaptown died surrounded by his family on January 17, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland, of congestive heart failure.
He was born May 28, 1946 in Grafton, WV to the late, William P. & Audrey Cannon. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother, William P. Cannon III.
Roger was a 1964 graduate of Allegany High School, and attended Frostburg State College. He was employed by Uncle Lu’s Tastee Freez, Sacred Heart Hospital, and retired as a Master Electrician from CSX Railroad. Often found in “Rog’s Garages”, he was a machinist and master engine builder.
Planes, trains, and automobiles were a major part of his life. He was an antique and sprint car enthusiast, founding member of the Clockers Car Club, a pilot, and raced cars and motorcycles. A “MacGyver”, he could fix anything. He was a talented storyteller and humorist. To quote Roger: “It’s always an adventure”.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jolanda (Knobloch) Cannon; a daughter, Heather Cannon Hackworth (Mike) of Mt. Airy, MD; a son, R. Glenn Cannon (Tawny) of Seattle, WA; a sister, Kelley Weddington (Pete) of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Luke and Kendall Hackworth; uncle, Michael Cannon of Cumberland; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 3rd from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, MD. A Celebration of Life event will immediately follow at the Cumberland Outdoor Club, 31 Thomas Street, Cumberland. As a tribute to Roger, it would be a wonderful honor for guests to arrive in their antique cars.
