Ronald Eltz

Ronald E. Eltz, 82, formerly of Douglassville, husband of Marie E. (Slakoper) Eltz, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Mary Medical Center. Born in Catasauqua, he was the son of the late Jesse D. and Estelle Mae (DeWalt) Eltz. Ronald attended Pottstown High School and was self-employed for 54 years in electronics, retiring in 2007. He was the owner of M.E.L. TV & Appliance of Reading along with his partner Jerry R. Mundell. Ron was a member of St. Paul’s U.C.C. in Amityville, a 32 Degree Mason at Stichter Lodge No. 254 F&M in Pottstown, Pottstown Royal Arch Chapter No. 198, Nativity Commandery No. 071, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, and West End Fire Co. No. 1 in Stowe. He enjoyed working on his antique cars, taking cruises, and playing pool in local leagues over the years. Ron also built model airplanes and was an avid Judo artist. Surviving along with his wife Marie are daughters, Nancy Curley (James) of Hatfield and Debbie Hanth of Exeter; son Edward R. Smith (Peggy) of Schwenksville; four stepdaughters, Debbie Whalen (Timothy) of Pottstown, Lyndie Wenner (Mark) of Franklin,TN, Kay Brewer of Holland, PA and Shirley Nicoletta of Grand Cayman; six grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; brother, Delmar Eltz of Pottstown; sister, Bonnie Kennedy of South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. Including his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his brother, Richard Eltz; stepmother, Elsie Eltz, and stepson, William Kline. Funeral Services are private at the convenience of the family. Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown is in charge of arrangements.
