Rose J. Chomanics

Rose Jane Frances Durante Chomanics, 97, of North Huntingdon, died August 27th, 2026, peacefully in her sleep. Rose was born January 8, 1929, in McKeesport, a daughter of Italian immigrants, the late Mary (Fichera) Durante and Frank Durante. She grew up during the depression and her mother died when she was two years old. During her childhood she spent much of her time in orphanages as her father couldn't afford to raise her by himself. Her life began to blossom when she met her husband, Steve Chomanics, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia. They were married on September 8, 1951. She enjoyed many things during her life. Raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren was at the top of her list. She also enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, watching baseball and traveling with her husband. She survived cancer three times. She is preceded in death by her husband Steve Chomanics and sisters Margaret Novak and Mary Welsh. She is survived by her children, Stephen Michael Chomanics, Marianne (Chomanics) Shirley (Thomas), and Frank David Chomanics (Coleen); her nine grandchildren, Stephen, Chad, and Lacie Chomanics, Tommy Shirley (the late Jennifer) and Jason Shirley and David, Caroline, Andrew and Tyler Chomanics; a brother Robert Durante; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main St., Irwin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 200 Leger Rd., North Huntingdon. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park
