Russel Mead Jr

Russell E. Mead Jr. 88, of Bedford, died on Monday, March 4, 2024 at his residence. He was born on December 25, 1935, in Greenville, NY a son of the late Russell E. and Georgianna (Giel) Mead Sr. On August 6, 2017 in Bedford, he married Dixie (Fix) Mead who survives along with the following family: four sons, Jimmy Mead and wife Mareen of Jefferson City, MO; Gerald Mead and wife Robin of Louisburg, NC, David Mead and wife Faith of Greeley; Andrew Mead of Huguenot, NY; three daughters: Terry Yaple and husband Richard of Woodbourne, NY; Tina Anderson and husband George, of Greenville, NY; Tammy Prey and husband Harry of Matamoras, PA; two step-daughters: Tina Crissey and husband Roger of Bedford; Jodi Sindelar of Erie; three step-sons: Douglas J. Auker and wife Michelle of Bedford; Kevin Alan Auker and wife Kimberly of Tokyo, Japan; Keith Alan Auker and wife Connie of Schellsburg; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren; one sister Catherine Ardler of Greenville, NY, and a brother Joseph Mead of Greenville, NY. He was preceded in death by three sons: Philip J. Mead, Timothy Mead, and infant Russell Eli Mead III.

Russell worked in construction as a mason. He owned the Washington Coffee Shop, the Double ‘R’ Bar, and also along with his wife, Dixie Cleaning and Restoration. He was member of the Bedford Antique Car Club. He enjoyed working on puzzles, woodworking, working on old cars, watching NASCAR and visiting Alabama.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at the Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford, with Mary Imler officiating. Burial at Bedford County Memorial Park. Friends will be received on Thursday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
