Russell Curtis Hughes

Russell C. Hughes of Washington, DC gained his wings and entered glory on August 22, 2026 during a stay at Montclare Nursing Home in Potomac, Maryland. Mr. Hughes was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 8, 1931 to the late Russell Hughes and Lillian Richardson.

Mr. Hughes became an entrepreneur at an early age and was a successful businessman in the Washington Metropolitan area. His entrepreneurship assisted his sons in becoming successful business owners. He was a man that would help anyone and assist people with housing and anything that could assist to make their life a little easier.

Mr. Hughes took comfort in knowing he was giving people second chance opportunities to redeem themselves. He believed that a man that didn’t work, didn’t eat. Therefore, if you were a man, and you came into his presence and you needed assistance ... you were working.

Mr. Hughes leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marie Hughes and his children, Leola Gilliam (Eldred), Zelda Paris (Darryl), Sonya Hughes, Kenneth Hughes (Debra), Lomax Hughes (Joveeta), Kimberley Hughes (Dexter), Arrington Hughes (Renada). His grandchildren, Antoine, Arrington Jr., Kevin, Nathaniel, Raymond, Maleek, Taylor, Kenneth, Dylan, Brianna, Ariel, Logan, Tammy, Asia, Jonét, and Diamond. His great-grandchildren, Kingsley, Bailey, Bryson, Legend, Pria, Makale, Nia, Musa, Kaleb, Kacie, Kairo, Kylie. He leaves a whole host of nieces, nephews and family friends, including his bonus children, Kenya Lomax, Artina Jackson, Erika Hamilton and Kenny Kelly.

Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by his sons, Nathaniel Hughes and Ezekiel Hughes; his granddaughter, Keyshawn Route; his sisters, Alma Hughes and Betsy Hughes and his brothers, Shannon Hughes, Wesley Hughes and Nello Hughes.
