Russell Perney

Russell Perney, age 85, of Monessen, PA, died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA.
He was born February 15,1939 in Youngstown, OH, the son of the late William Perney and the late Goldie (Nolan) Perney.
Russ better known in the region as "Red" for the brilliant red hair that he carried on his head proudly until the day he passed. Growing up in Pricedale one of nine children he attended Monessen high school where he participated in the Vo-Tech program.
He was a loving husband to Mavis for 67 years and together, they raised three children, Russell Junior, David and Debbie. Russell was a faithful Christian and attended the Presbyterian Church. He modeled the western Pennsylvania work ethic and was a loyal employee to Coca-Cola for many years, becoming a regional sales manager and made many acquaintances and lifetime friendships throughout the valley. Everyone that knew "Red" loved and respected him.
Russell enjoyed his time off spending weekends in western Maryland, Deep Creek area at his cabin where he enjoyed entertaining his children and grandchildren with quads, golf carts fishing, and just spending time in nature.
The family enjoyed their annual trip to Wildwood, New Jersey for family reunion vacations at the beach it was a tradition.
Russ was a true local sports fan. He never missed a Steeler, Penguins, and Pitt Panthers game and followed local high school teams.
Russell took great pride in his family, never met a stranger or made an enemy. A traditional, good citizen that we believe Heaven has welcomed with a cheer.
In addition to his parents Russell was preceded in death by a son, Russell E. Perney Jr.; two sisters, Verna Frame and Mary Plewniak; and four brothers, Billy, Robert, Henry, and Stanley Perney.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife: Mavis (Orient) Perney; two children, David (Karen) Perney of Florida and Debra (Anthony) Greathouse of Virginia; seven grandchildren, Samantha Perney, David Perney Jr., Sarah Perney, Kristi and Matt Dake, Cameron Greathouse and Jillian Greathouse; a great grandaughter, Ava Perney; two sisters, Gladys Lamey of Monessen and Clara (Gerald) Wiltz of West Virginia ; also many beloved nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Anthony L. Massafra Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., 40 Second Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033 (724) 379-6900 where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, June 21, 2024. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 AM
Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, PA
