Ruth Woodyard

Ruth E. (Anderson) Woodyard was born on October 17, 1930 to the late Cars and Myra (Morris) Anderson in Graysville, Ohio. She passed away on Monday September 23, 2024 at The Oaks at Bethesda. Ruth graduated from Graysville High School in 1947 and was the class valedictorian. She moved to Zanesville in 1947 and worked at several area companies using her clerical skills (typing and shorthand) which she loved. Ruth married Fred C. Woodyard on January 25, 1952. During their nearly 60 years of marriage, Fred and Ruth visited the 48 contiguous United States, as well as Mexico and Canada. After Fred’s passing in November 2011, Ruth had the opportunity to also travel to Alaska and Hawaii. She took pride in all of their travels. She retired in 1990 from the Zanesville City Schools as secretary to the Superintendent after 20 years of service. Surviving are a son, Gregg (Kathy) Woodyard, a daughter Regina (Jack) Sprankel, a daughter-in-law Roxann Woodyard, a brother Willis (Betty Ann) Anderson. Six grandchildren Ashley (Wes) Leak, Alan (Renee Perez) Woodyard, Holly (Dan) Stuart, Nathan (Kelsey Casey) Sprankel, Andrea (Anthony) Sprankel Brausch, and Devin (Alana) Sprankel. Eight great-grandchildren Stefanie, Lucas, Alexa, Ava, Wyatt, Lauren, Logan, and Archie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, a son David Woodyard, a sister and brother-in-law Rosalie and Ray Coss. Ruth was a faithful member of Woodlawn Ave. Church of Christ since 1947. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday September 26, 2024 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage and one hour prior to the service which will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday September 27, 2024 with Doug Oakes officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.
