Sammie Lipscomb, 80, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at his residence.
On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Sammie Lipscomb, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, left this world to enter eternal rest. Born on March 18, 1944, as the son of the late Sam and Ruby Tate Lipscomb of Dallas, NC, Sammie lived a life full of love, dedication, and passion that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Sammie was employed with A.M. Smyre Textile before retiring from Harris Teeter, where he served as a forklift operator for over 25 years. Throughout his time at Harris Teeter, Sammie earned multiple safety awards, a testament to his commitment to excellence and his dedication to his work.
Educated in the Gaston County Schools, Sammie attended Highland High School in Gastonia, NC, where he formed lasting memories and friendships. Affectionately known as “Sonny” by his family and close friends, Sammie’s warm and loving spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
On June 12, 1966, Sammie married his childhood sweetheart, Rosa Marie Lipscomb. Together, they shared 58 years and 8 months of love, joy, and unwavering partnership. From this union, three children were born: Kevin, Jeffrey, and Kimberly. Sammie also had a daughter, Lorenza Rena Miller.
Sammie was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Mamie Lipscomb-Pressley, and his brothers, James Lipscomb and Theodore Lipscomb. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, particularly through his longtime service to Second Calvary Baptist Church. As a dedicated member of the Usher Ministry, Sammie took great pride in ensuring that everything was in place for Sunday services. He was honored with plaques for his service as Usher Floor Captain and his devoted efforts.
In addition to his commitment to faith, Sammie had a lifelong love for sports. As a young man, he played semi-professional baseball with the Hornets of Clover, SC. He also enjoyed supporting his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers, with great enthusiasm. Outside of sports, Sammie loved spending time playing pool, checkers, and—most importantly—fishing. He took great pleasure in his fishing trips and had an undeniable passion for keeping his boat and vehicle impeccably clean at all times. Sammie took great pleasure in tending to his lawn and prided himself on keeping it in pristine condition, always striving to make it look beautiful.
Sammie Lipscomb leaves behind a cherished family to mourn his loss, including his wife, Rosa Marie; his children, Kevin Lipscomb (Gina), Jeffrey Lipscomb (Blonsie), and Kimberly Lipscomb; his eight adoring granddaughters, Alicia, Brittini, Shondale, Shadarra, Cierra, Taylor Marie, Shannon, Shatavia, and eight great-grandchildren, Kaliyah, Kingston, Cameron, Mariah, Abria, Jo’Siah, Carter Samuel (his namesake), and the newly born, Jenesis; three sisters, Rena Lipscomb, Phyliss Ann Reid, and Iris (Patrick) Anderson; three brothers, George, David, and Bobby Lipscomb; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Sammie’s legacy lives on in the love he gave to his family and the joy he brought to all who knew him. He will be remembered not just for his service, but for the kindness, humor, and passion he shared with everyone he encountered. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will remain forever in our hearts.
