Samuel Roy Speece

Samuel Roy Speece, age 86, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on July 2, 2026.
He was born on February 1, 1940, to the late Phillip and Irene (Whitman) Leas.
Formerly of Marion, Indiana, Sam attended Mount Olive Grade School as well as Bennett and Sweetser during his younger years. After graduating from Van Buren High School in 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country from 1959 to 1962, and was honorably discharged. Sam was a kindhearted and generous person, as well as a jokester. Even when faced with adversity in his life, he was always able to look at the bright side in every situation that he faced. Sam had many interests and enjoyments in his life including driving around town, loving the game of basketball, and most importantly, spending time with his daughter, Heidi.
Sam is survived by his daughter, Heidi Speece Goss of Norwood, North Carolina; grandchildren, Katie Goss of Manhattan, New York, and Gavin Goss of West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia; brothers, Phillip “Skip” Speece of Iowa and Doug Cowdin of Columbia City, Indiana; sisters, Linda Paulus, Robyn Coverstone, and Tammie Kessler (Scott) all of Columbia City, Indiana; as well as several nieces and nephews.
