Shirley Hostetler

October 24, 1944 - November 12, 2024 (Age 80)

Shirley L. (March) Hostetler, wife of Rodney Hostetler, of Evans Road, Upper Pottsgrove, died Tuesday evening at Amity Place. She had recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

She was the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth (Leighton) March and grew up in Pottstown, the second youngest of six siblings. Throughout her life, she remained close to her family, enjoying many gatherings with her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.

She was a 1962 graduate of Pottstown High School and pursued a career in finance and credit. Known for her strong work ethic, she got her first job on her 16th birthday, of which she was very proud. She went on to work at Horrigan Finance in Pottstown and then became credit manager for General Electric Credit at Levitz Furniture. She later worked as credit manager for Keystone Leasing in Exton before retiring.

In 1970, while working at Horrigan, she met Rod. They were married in 1971 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage, always by each other’s side. They traveled to many places throughout the U.S. and often vacationed in Scottsdale, Arizona, but her favorite place was Maui. Shirley and Rod made numerous trips to that island with wonderful memories.

Shirley loved restaurants and fashion, going out to eat at many fine places throughout the region, always dressed to perfection. She made friends wherever she went, her warmth and congeniality evident to people she had just met.

Her family remained important throughout her life, and she was especially close to her brother Bill, separated in age by just 10 months.

Surviving with her husband are two brothers, Bob and his wife Kathy of Scottsdale, AZ; Bill and his wife Nancy of Douglassville; two sisters, Carol Cocci and Bonnie Brandel, both of Pottstown; two brothers-in-law, Richard Kellar, of Sanatoga, and Raymond Cocci, of Philadelphia, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Thelma Kellar.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Houck and Gofus Funeral Home, 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown. Interment will be private.
