Shirley Mae Kane

May 5, 1938 - November 11, 2024 (Age 86)

Shirley Mae (Crable) Kane, 86, of Cresaptown, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family after battling cancer on Monday, November 11, 2024.

Born May 5, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Vernon A. Crable and Nannie E. Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Francis Kane, Sr.; her sister, Deanna Purdy and husband Will; her brother Bill Hulings, her brother in law, Joe Collins and son in law, Tim Llewellyn.

She graduated from Hagerstown High School. She married Jim Kane, the love of her life, in 1957.

She worked at Schwab’s until their closure. Then went on to work at Cintas until her retirement. After retirement, she worked at Cresaptown Elementary as the “Breakfast Lady”.

Shirley is survived by her aunt, Rhoda Burns; children, James Kane Jr and wife Debbie, Mary Anna Kramer and husband Randy, and Sandy Llewellyn and boyfriend, Wayne Harrison; five grandchildren, Teresa Dolly and husband Harry, Jonathan Kramer, Jessica Grove and husband Justin, Clinton Llewellyn, and Amanda Llewellyn and boyfriend, Keenan Holliman; great grandchildren, Raegan and Caedence Grove; her siblings, Vernon Crable and wife Lynn, Mary Louise Collins and Phyllis Kling and husband Jesse; two very special sisters, Liddy and Robin and husband, Rick; and a large extended family with many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family that were very special to her.

Shirley joined the Cresaptown Eagles Ladies Auxiliary in January 1969. She was a dedicated and loyal member always willing to volunteer and lend a hand when needed. Having served faithfully in all positions at the local level, also during this time she held the position of President four times. Shirley had also been active as a state auxiliary member. She was also historian for her long lost friend Charlotte Fabri. She made many special bonds with her ladies in arms.

She was also a member of St. Ambrose Parish in Cresaptown until its closure where she was a lector. Then joined St. Michael’s Parish in Frostburg. She was also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Cresaptown Vol. Fire Department.

Visitation will be Friday, November 22nd from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown.

A funeral service will be Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Scott Kady officiating.

Burial will be with her husband at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD.

The family would like to thank UPMC Western Maryland and all the doctors and nurses that took care of her. Your compassion and concern meant everything to her.
