Shirley Thomas

Shirley (Hawk) Thomas, 91, of Greensburg, died Monday, May 13, 2024, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg campus. She was born May 20, 1932, in Greensburg to the late Burrell W. and Geraldine (Stough) Hawk. Shirley worked as a secretary for Greensburg-Salem School District for 40 years, where she had a great impact on both students and staff. She was a lifelong member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg. Shirley was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano, the beach and flea markets. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Richard A. Thomas in 2022. Shirley is survived by two sons, Gerald (Cheryl) Thomas, of Greensburg, and Dale Thomas, of Kittanning; four granddaughters, Karen (John) Nichols, Amy (Jeffrey) Cruz, Michelle (Daniel) Zervins, and Anna Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Ella Nichols and Maxwell Cruz. Family and friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church; 246 S. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601, with Pastor Chris Combs officiating. EVERYONE IS ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church for food programs.
