Sue Carol Rogers

Sue Rogers, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025.
Sue was born on November 17, 1937, in Mint Hill, North Carolina, to the late Robert Phillips, Sr. and Gladys Phillips. Sue was born with a hereditary disease that is a macular degenerative eye condition called RP or Regnitous Pigmantosous, otherwise described as Tunnel Vision. She never let her disability define her and she lived a life of resilience, faith and triumph.
She graduated East Mecklenburg High School in 1955. She met the love of her life, Earl Thomas Rogers, Sr. in 1956 while working at the Mecklenburg Courthouse and they married on June 21, 1957. Together, they had two children, Earl "Tommy" and Suzanne. Sue was a dedicated wife and mother and was a stay at home mom for twenty years. She loved any opportunity to spend time with her family and was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to her three grandchildren and great grandmother to her two grandchildren.
In 1947, she dedicated her life to Yeshua and became a member of Wilson Grove Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, and Acteens leader at her church. In 1978, she became a Charter Member at Idlewild Baptist Church and was involved in Youth Leadership and taught Sunday School classes. She was also the Church leader for the Southern Baptists Women's Association from 1979 to 1981 and in 1981, she became the Director for the SBWA until 1983. In 1980, Sue became the Director of Foreign Missions and remained in that role until 1984. She was also a member of Christ Baptist Church and Bet Moshiac Messianic Congregation in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Academically and Professionally, Sue always strived to exceed expectations and defy odds. In 1972, she received her Early Childhood Development Associate's Degree and went on to be a Preschool Teacher and Director at Southport Baptist Church from 1973 to 1974. She attended Queens College for three years and received her Associates Degree in Business at Mars Hill College. In 1986, she received her Bachelor's Degree in Communications at UNCC and in 1988, she received her Masters in Communications at UNCC. Sue worked at CPCC in the English Communications and English for Naturalization Department from 1988 to 1990. She worked at UNCC in the English Communications Engineering Department from 1989 to 1990. She also worked in the Monroe Sheriffs Department as a Proper Report Writing and Communications employee from 1991 to 1992. In 1996, Sue received her state certification as a North Carolina Licensed Insurance Agent and was a NC Insurance Independent Agent from 1996 to 2000. Sue also provided assistance to her husband, Earl, in the rewriting and editing of the On Board Diagnostic Systems 2nd generation for automotive teaching.
In addition to her parents, Sue was predeceased by her husband, Earl Thomas Rogers, Sr and son, Dr. Earl "Tommy" Thomas Rogers, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne (Michael) Rogers Wilkers; grandchildren, Eric Thomas King, Carl (Brianna) Thomas Rogers and Sarah Loree Hall; extended granddaughter, Callista Grace Wilkins; and great grandchildren, Shiloh Rogers and Aellie Rogers.
A service for Sue will be held on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Noon at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road Mint Hill, NC 28227.
