Thomas C. Barnette

Thomas Clifford Barnette, 82, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. He was born on November 17, 1943, and was formerly of Ellenboro, North Carolina. Thomas was a graduate of Kings Mountain High School, Class of 1962. He proudly served in the United States Navy from June 4, 1962, to August 2, 1966, and the United States Air Force from September 7, 1966, to January 6, 1971. He was a Vietnam Veteran.

Reserved, creative, and a true perfectionist, Thomas expressed himself through his remarkable talent for creating graphic illustrations. His creativity was a special part of who he was, and he brought his own unique and thoughtful touch to the things he created and the people around him. Thomas cherished his time with his wife, Ana María, whom he met while serving in the Air Force. He especially looked forward to visits from TC, Melanie, and Payton. He enjoyed sharing laughter with his brother Leonard and never turned down the opportunity to enjoy Martha’s homemade desserts. His beloved cat, Abby, held a particularly special place in his heart. Thomas will be remembered most for his quiet strength and creative spirit.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ana María; his son, TC and wife, Melanie; his grandchildren, Payton and Logan; his brother, Leonard and wife, Martha; his niece, Sally McGee; and many members of the Surber family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eldora Surber; his father, Perry Barnette; his brother, Norman; and his sister, Wanda McGee.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. Thomas leaves behind a legacy of creativity, dedication, quiet strength, and love that will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 3:00PM at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
