Thomas Cecil
July 24, 1943 – April 29, 2026 (Age 82)
Thomas MacArthur Cecil, 82, of Cresaptown, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at UPMC-WM.
Born July 24, 1943, in Cumberland, MD, Tom was the son of the late George G. and Rhoda V. (Lease) Cecil. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George “Tip” Cecil; and two sisters, Shirley Ralston and Joan Trexler. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Tom graduated from Cresaptown Junior High in 1958 and Allegany High School in 1961, where he played football and basketball. Tom graduated from Frostburg State College in 1976. He was employed at Celanese, Sears Roebuck and Kelly Springfield, before retiring with 26 years from the State of Maryland, Office of Parole and Probation.
Tom served three years in the Army National Guard (1960-1963) in C Company 115th Medium Tank Battalion, which was merging into Headquarters Company, Cumberland. He served two years in the Army Reserves (1963-1965) in the 265th Supply Company, Cresaptown, MD.
Tom was an active member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church (1997), where he served as the Trustees for many years, as well as on many other committees.
His hobbies were antiquing, genealogy, collecting old photos and advertising, and watching every black and white movie ever made. He also enjoyed giving “history lessons” about anything and everything – especially the Cresaptown Area.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathy (Nealis) Cecil; daughter, Deana Reid and husband Mike, Cresaptown; and two grandchildren, Caroline Reid and fiancé Nicholas, and Harrison Reid and special friend Carli.
Friends will be received at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, 14805 McMullen Hwy SW, Cumberland, MD 21505 on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Patrick Hurder Buhrman and Rev. Harold R. McClay officiating.
Interment will be private in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale, MD.
