Thomas Cessna

December 31, 1943 - February 1, 2022 (Age 78)

Mount Savage, MD – Thomas “Butch” Leon Cessna, 78, of Mount Savage, MD, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, after a courageous battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Born December 31, 1943, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late Perry F. and Aretta Cessna. He was preceded in death by his siblings Betty Brant, Dorothy (Dottie) O’Baker, Robert (Bob) Cessna, and Shirley (Liz) Witt.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Anita (Carr), his daughters, Tracy Carnell and husband Harry, Wendy Hewitt and husband Doug. His grandchildren, HJ Carnell and wife Felicia, Meghan Carnell, Kayla Hughes and husband Eric, Noah Hewitt and girlfriend Erica Matthews, and Ellie Folk and husband Marcus. All of whom he was very proud of. He was pap-pap and pappy Butch to his three great grandchildren, Sadie, Stella and Sam, whom he loved dearly, his faithful dog Roxie, his sister Marlyn (Tink) O’Baker, and his brothers, John (Deedle) Cessna, Danny (Boonie) Cessna and wife Kelly, and many nieces and nephews.

Butch graduated from Mount Savage High School in 1961 and served in the USAF in active duty for 4 years. After the Air Force, he was employed by PPG and CSXT. He was a member of the Wellersburg Vol. Fire Company and the Barrelville, Kennells Mill, and Piney Mountain Hunting Clubs. He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed hunting with his grandsons HJ & Noah, son in law Doug and his friends, along with attending the outdoor sportsman’s shows. He loved vacationing with his wife, his daughters, and their families, having family get togethers with dinner & picnics, and going to the movie theater with his grandson, Noah. Simply put, nothing was more precious to Butch than spending time with his wife, Anita, and his family.

Butch was a Christian who gave his heart to the Lord in 2014. He was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Ellerslie, MD. ALS took everything from him, but it did not take his faith in God, his joy or his love for his family and his friends.

Special thanks to Pastor Greg Miller, Pastor Ken Korns, Steve Trexler, his sitters, niece Terry Shockey, cousin Lil Baker, and neighbor Diane Emerick. His Comfort Keeper, Jason, the Martinsburg Veteran Affairs, Hospice of UPMC Western Maryland, LinCare Respiratory Staff, NuMotion, and National Seating and Mobility.

Friends will be received at the Calvary Bible Church, 13901 South Gardner Street, Ellerslie, MD, on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Calvary Bible Church, 13901 South Gardner Street, Ellerslie, MD, Monday, February 7, 2022, at 1:00 P.M., with Pastors Greg Miller and Ken Korns officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid

up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge will award me on that day;

and not only to me, but also to all who have loved his appearing.
