Thomas Sutton Sr.

February 23, 1942 - January 27, 2025 (Age 82)

Thomas ‘Tom’ Sutton was born on February 23rd, 1942, in the family home on Sutton Rd, Ft Mill. He was the second child of A. C. ‘Jack’ and Rebecca Sutton Jr. He passed away unexpectedly on January 27th, 2025. He went to be with his Lord peacefully and without pain. A dedicated worker and hustler, Tom began his career in the heavy grading business with his dad Jack and older brother Jackie. In 1976, he and his son Tommy Jr opened Sutton Redi-Mix Concrete where he spent the rest of his working life. He was a fifty year member of Rock Hill Masonic Lodge 111, and a long time member of the Hejaz Shrine.

Tom is survived by his little sister Beckie Elkins, his children Tommy Jr (Becky), his daughter Candy Lucas (David), his grandchildren Tommy Sutton III (Maranda), Johnthomas Sutton, Maggie Belle Ray (Troy), Billy Jack Sutton, Dellaney Erb, Collin Boozer (Taylor) Dalton Boozer, and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly Erb and his grandson Levi Boozer.

Tom was always finding other ways to make money (his second passion) than just his daily job. So, he invested in real estate, he traded in equipment and vehicles, and was always on the lookout for any opportunity to make a profit in order to reach his goal of financial security. He was born to parents of the Depression era. As such, he was taught to be frugal, to work hard, and to ensure he was successful enough to provide for his family in any event. When the concrete company was bought out by a multinational company, he decided he was secure. Tom had always been a racer and car collector. In the last period of his life, he concentrated on his car collection (his first passion). He and Tommy Jr traveled all over the country to auctions and private sellers. Tom’s children were blessed to have him as a father. He raised them as a single dad in the seventies and eighties when that was a rare occurrence. Tom’s passing will leave a big hole in the lives of his family and those of his friends.

Services for Tom will be held at Greene’s Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC, on Saturday February 1st. Visitation with the family will be from 10 am until 11 am. The service will follow, Reverend Jerry Devinney officiating, with internment at Grandview Memorial Park Cemetery, 620 South Cherry Rd, Rock Hill, SC. Friends are encouraged to drive their hot rod cars. The internment service is planned for the family to attend, but all are welcome who wish to join us for that as well. Pall bearers will be TD Sutton III, Johnthomas Sutton, Billy Jack Sutton, Collin Boozer, Charlie Elkins, and Troy Ray.

Tommy Jr and Candy will be welcoming friends and family at Tom’s home the rest of the week from 11 until 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Tom’s name to the Shriners Hospital, 950 W Faris Rd, Greenville, SC 29605. Condolences may be offered at https://www.greenefuneralhome.net/obituary/
