Tressa Slebodnik

November 11, 1931 - August 29, 2022 (Age 90)

Tressa Ann Nussar Slebodnik, 90, of Sewickley Township passed away peacefully on August 29, 2022 surrounded by her family in her Sewickley Township home. She was born November 11, 1931 in Rostraver Township. Daughter of the late Michael Ferdinand and Elizabeth Skruber Nussar. Tressa was Valedictorian of Rostraver High School class of 1949 and graduated second from California University of Pennsylvania Teachers College in the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society with a Bachelor of Science of Education degree. She was school teacher for the Yough School District for 27 years: teaching Kindergarten and 1st grade. She was a member of the St. Edwards Catholic Church for many years. A member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers; holding the position of secretary and treasurer over the years, as well as being a part of the Altar and Rosary Society and The American Legion Auxillary. Tressa was an American Patriot of the Year and included in the 1994 Who’s Who Among American Education. She was a member of Westmoreland Chapter Association of School Retirees (WCASR) and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). She was also a member of DAR (Daughter of the American Revolution). Tressa lived on a farm all her life. At the young age of 7, Tressa began driving tractor on the family dairy farm. She helped with the large number of chickens and cows, as well as selling eggs and milk. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, playing piano, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Tressa is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Thomas P. Slebodnik and her son Thomas M. Slebodnik. She is survived by her remaining children: Anita (Ray) Mysliwski, Eleanor (Dr. Frank) McGrogan, Edward (Julie), Charles (Paula), Kathleen (Kevin) Cornman, and Linda (Brad) Carter, 13 Grandchildren, and 7 Great Grandchildren. Tressa was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters: John, Andrew, Michael, Joseph, Barbara, Elizabeth and Mariam. Friends will be from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm on Friday, September 2, 2022 at the Beatty-Rich Funeral Home, Inc. Rt 136 Madison, PA – Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 120 St Edwards Ln, Herminie, PA 15637, with Fr. Vincent Yee-Concepcione officiating. Interment will follow at the Westmoreland Memorial Park Cemetery in Greensburg, PA.
