Treva Hamilton

January 9, 1930 - March 15, 2024 (Age 94)

Treva Hester Mae Hamilton, affectionately known as "Granny" to many, was born January 9, 1930 to the late Robert Murrell and Lessie Slade in Greensboro, NC. Treva – devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, and friend of many – peacefully departed this life on March 15, 2024 at the age of 94 with her family lovingly by her side.

Born the youngest daughter of 14 children, Treva attended and graduated high school in Greensboro before her academic pursuits led her to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s secretarial college. It was during her studies there she would meet her soon-to-be husband and longtime companion of 69 years, Brady Hamilton. Married in 1949, Brady and Treva relocated to Charlotte, NC and became lifelong residents. Together, they welcomed six children from their union. Blessed with the sacred charge of motherhood, Treva embraced her full-time role with a grace that knew no bounds. She babysat many children over the years, caring for them and loving them and all in addition to raising her own five daughters and one son.

Treva's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was a devout Christian reared in the Church of God faith. She accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age and loved to talk about the Lord. She loved attending church and loved to sing. She worshipped at Seigle Avenue Church of God for many years and was a faithful member of the choir. Treva's heart was a vessel of God's love, which she poured abundantly upon her family. As a loving matriarch, she could often be heard saying “I love you” ensuring that each word was not just spoken but deeply felt. She had a beautiful smile that despite many challenges in her lifetime, was never lost. In her final days, her nurses even marveled at how her smile radiated warmth and love to everyone around her. Treva will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her love and kindness will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

Left to honor Treva's memory are her daughters, Marie Hall (widow) and Teresa Caldwell (widow); her son, Marvin Hamilton (Lucy); 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and a host of treasured nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 13 siblings, and three daughters – Patricia Robinson, Brenda Harris, and Joyce Krider.
