Valada Wilma Walker
January 2, 1942 - December 28, 2024 (Age 82)
Valada Walker, of White Oak, Pennsylvania. She departed this life at the age of 82. Born on January 2, 1942, in Duquesne, Pa. She was the beloved youngest daughter of the late Quinnie Walker Sr. and Hattie Binford Walker.
Valada graduated from Duquesne High School in 1959. She went on to pursue higher education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., during the early 1960s. Upon returning to Pennsylvania, she was employed by K-Mart for 17 years, where she broke racial barriers in a position where opportunities were previously limited for blacks. Later, she dedicated her life to public service as a social worker for the Department of Welfare, retiring after over 22 years of commitment.
Valada's deep faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she often expressed her faith through music. A remarkably talented musician, Valada was self-taught, learning piano by watching her mother teach lessons to others. Despite never receiving formal training, her innate musical talent flourished, and she went on to play for numerous choirs throughout the Mon Valley area. Her gift surpassed even that of her mother’s, a fact she shared with humor.
Valada’s vibrant personality shone through her many hobbies. As a young girl, she considered herself a tomboy, always ready for adventure. This spirit continued into adulthood, where she found joy in sewing, crocheting, macramé, baking, and just about any craft she put her hands to. Friends and family marveled at her ability to create almost anything she set her mind to.
Valada was an avid bowler and a cherished member of her bowling league, where she formed lasting friendships and enjoyed many spirited games.
Valada departed this life on December 29, 2024, at The Palms at O’neal in Mckeesport, PA. She is preceded in death by her parents Quinnie Walker Sr. and Hattie Binford Walker, sister Geraldine Brown, brother Quinnie Walker, Jr., and Son Barry Walker.
Valada is survived by granddaughter Mallory Walker-Khan, nephews Gerald Brown (Diane), Delanian Brown (Karen), Quinnie Walker, Jr., niece Trudy Conely (Jason), and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Valada's legacy is one of resilience, creativity, faith, and love. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
